Teaching Sportsmanship
So, what is sportsmanship? Well, usually, it's defined as the conduct or attitude that befits participants in sports, especially fair play, courtesy, a striving spirit, and grace in losing. Unfortunately, this is not often seen in today's world of trash-talking players and sports fans, deceptive contestants in TV reality shows, and the get-ahead antics of most adults in the marketplace. With these images so visible, it's no wonder our children are learning a warped sense of fair play.

How then can we change today's attitudes about sportsmanship and instill the good, old-fashioned sense of losing and winning gracefully into our children's lives?

Some parents believe the answer lies in eliminating childhood competition altogether. Rather than enjoying a healthy challenge that inspires a child to dig deep and discover his very best, they embrace a different philosophy that sees competition as unhealthy.    ....continued

John 3:16 Project Cancelled

Important Notice!

Posted: 18 Nov 2010 06:19 PM PST

I want to thank everyone that responded to volunteering for the John 3:16 service project.

Unfortunately, this event has been cancelled.  The Mission was uanble to secure a store location due to the stores' prior commitments to other organizations.

After speaking with the Volunteer Coordinator, she did express her gratitude and regret (since the center's foodbank is at an all time low).
It is still not too late to donate for their thanksgiving project.  Take a moment to check out their website.  They are taking donations for turkeys, macaroni & cheeze, canned vegetables, canned yams, pumpkin pie filling.   There are also organizations that are matching the turkey donations.  www.john316mission.org  I know they would appreciate your support.

Again, thank you!

Help Needed
This is for Andrea, Coach Malcolm Andrews widow and family.
Dear NOAH Family,

Andrea and family are moving into a new rental home not far from Springs of Grace Bible Church.  They are trying to make a new start and have some move in needs if any one has some available furniture to give. These are items she is willing to buy but we thought we should check with people first.

Specific needs are: refrigerator, full size or larger bed and mattress; 1 set of bunk beds, chairs, dressers, kitchen items (dishes, pots, pans, etc.)

You can bring items to Springs of Grace church or call Andrea (918 951 4805) about delivering bigger items. If you have questions you can call Rosa at (918 231 5106) or email her at rosablankenship@gmail.com

Thanks,

Coach Joe
