Teaching Sportsmanship
   So, what is sportsmanship? Well, usually, it's defined as the conduct or attitude that befits participants in sports, especially fair play, courtesy, a striving spirit, and grace in losing. Unfortunately, this is not often seen in today's world of trash-talking players and sports fans, deceptive contestants in TV reality shows, and the get-ahead antics of most adults in the marketplace. With these images so visible, it's no wonder our children are learning a warped sense of fair play.

How then can we change today's attitudes about sportsmanship and instill the good, old-fashioned sense of losing and winning gracefully into our children's lives?

Some parents believe the answer lies in eliminating childhood competition altogether. Rather than enjoying a healthy challenge that inspires a child to dig deep and discover his very best, they embrace a different philosophy that sees competition as unhealthy.    ....continued
